History
PJCI as an organisation was initiated in late 80’s. Since its inception the organization works with many communities like handloom weavers, fishworkers, farmers, cultural practitioners, environmental groups, manual scavengers, forest dwelling communities. The founding principle of the organisation is to improve the socio-economical and educational standard of the marginalized communities. PJCI based in Bangalore and has been engaged with people at the national level in India.

Organisation Mandate
To undertake programs and activities to promote education and awareness among public for the development of the poor, backward, needy, underprivileged communities. It helps for the promotion, benefit and advancement of the people irrespective of religion, caste, class, colour and sex.
Legalities
Societies Registration:
Partners in Justice Concerns India (PJCI) is registered in 1985 under the Karnataka Societies Registration Act 1960 (Karnataka Act No. 17 of 1960).
FCRA Registration:
Partners in Justice Concerns India (PJCI) is registered under FCRA.
It has also obtained Income Tax Exemption certificate under 12A.
Structure of PJC-INDIA:
PJCI has two bodies for the functioning of the society.
1. General Council
2. Working Committee
The General Council is the body of the society from which a working committee is elected. The Working Committee is the executive body of the registered society. It is responsible for the organisation, general superintendence, direction and control of the organisation.
The Working Committee appoints a coordinator as the designated chief functionary of the organisation.
The organisations leadership is mentored by a team of social scientists having expertised to the various Economic, Education and Social issues connected to the people and experience with varies section of people in India. Hence the engagement with groups and the issues surrounding the lives and livelihood of the marginalised and natural resource-based communities is an utmost concern of the organisation at the core of its values; PJC works on a holistic cultural education for the community youth.
Key Persons of PJCI
- Mrs. Manjubala Gardia (Chairperson) is a social thinker and grass root activist from Chhattisgarh. She has been devoted more than 30 years of her life with the rural people of Chhattisgarh.
She has been playing a significant role in the field of women empowerment in the country.
- Mr. Ashok Kumar Sharma (Secretary) is a social worker from Himachal. He has a long experience in managing the institutional administrative work. He is a resourceful person in giving training to individuals and institutions and make them engage with the socially vulnerable secton.
- Rev. Paul Rajarao (Treasurer) is a social worker engaged with the emancipation of marginalized communities in Andhra Pradesh since three decades. He is engaged with social development of the community with regards to education, health and women’s empowerment.
- Mr. Shankar Mahanand (Co-ordinator / Chief Functionary; Mr. Shankar Mahanand is a cultural practitioner. He is a lyricist, musician and playwright. He has composed many songs and directed many theatres in various languages. He is a resourceful person in providing cultural training to the youth and helping them to explore their inherent talents.
WORK
Main Activity
- PJCI’s work focuses on community development activities in a holistic manner. It nurtures, facilitates and supports new and emerging people’s groups of the marginalized communities, and works especially with the youth.
- PJCI works on various themes that include training and capacity building of community groups.
Working Structure
- PJCI operates through a small secretariat. Its work and activities are field based and are focused on community development. Our area of focus has been nurturing and developing initiatives aimed at engaging communities in the development process.
